A graduate of UCLA (1981) and Loyola Law School (1985), John Aitelli joined POC in September 2020.

John has defended professional liability, products liability, general liability, elder abuse, significant personal injury, and wrongful death cases for over 35 years.  He has special expertise in ophthalmologic, obstetric and cardiology cases, and he has tried and arbitrated a variety of actions.

During his legal career, John has successfully represented individuals, partnerships, corporations, physicians, hospitals, medical ancillary facilities, group practices, HMOs, veterinarians, manufacturers, insurance carriers, as well as self-insured entities. Some of John’s clients include Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company, Dignity Health (formerly Catholic Healthcare West), The Doctors Company, Cooperative of American Physicians, The Regents of the University of California, Providence Medical Institute, Beta Health Group, The LASIK Vision Institute, Inc. and VCA Antech, Inc.

John has participated in numerous appellate cases including Central Pathology Service Medical Clinic, Inc. v. Superior Court, (1992) 3 Cal.4th 181, 832 P.2d 924, 10 Cal.Rptr.2d 208 wherein the California Supreme Court held that California Code of Civil Procedure §425.13, which restricts a plaintiff’s ability to obtain punitive damages against a health care provider, applies to all causes of action, including intentional torts, “arising out of” the provision of professional services.
