Villagrana v. Glendale Adventist Medical Center, et al. – Los Angeles Superior Court (Long Beach). Mr. Packer represented OB on-call to another defendant who diagnosed abrupted placenta in woman carrying twins and performed emergency cesarean section. One twin expired 3 days later, other alive and well. Mother began hemorrhaging in PACU, which despite all reasonable efforts, could not be saved. Plaintiffs alleged failure to adhere to post-partum hemorrhage protocol. Defendant claimed hemorrhage and DIC due to amniotic fluid embolism was responsible and no treatment was successful. Deputy Medical Examiner called on plaintiffs’ case, who verified pathological finding of AFE. After six days of trial, when plaintiffs rested their case, Motion for Non-Suit granted by court.
